In my recollection, Dehanche burst on to the scene to quench the thirst for great belts and the Hollyhock was the belt I recall seeing first (or maybe just most). The tipping point for me was watching a girl on TikTok run her hands over the hardware and I became obsessed with the sound the rings made. I can’t explain it, it’s so silly.
I bought direct from Dehanche during their end of year sale which featured the Hollyhock in a “wine” colorway that I was hopeful would be a Bordeaux color.
I’m a size US2 and purchased a medium in the hopes that I could loop the end around and I enjoy a long belt tail and I love the length it gives me when worn at my natural waist.
Here’s a note from a Substack chat RE sizing for your consideration.
Honestly, Dehanche’s size guide is SUPER useful.
The above photos don’t capture the color well, which is perhaps the same issue the team at Dehanche had, but it’s quite purple. Because the color was final sale I kept it but I don’t wear the belt as much as I might in a different colorway.
My only genuine gripe is that the leather on the belt is quite soft so it has creased at the spot I normally wear it.
And the back of the belt is scratched from the belt pin.
And, again, a note from Substack chats from someone who probably has more belt experience than me.
If you are interested in a statement belt alternative read the Khaite Benny belt review with a round up of statement belts.
And if you just want a classic leather belt here are suggestions swiped straight from Substack chats; the runaway favorite is Anderson’s but I like a good ole Brighton belt that you can find CHEAP on resale sites.

I’m not a huge belt person so it doesn’t get much wear, which made this Aritzia belt the right investment level for me — https://www.aritzia.com/us/en/product/legendary-solid-brass-leather-belt/119705.html?dwvar_119705_color=1537
I'm a huge Déhanche fan! The Hollyhock in Black was my first belt and it almost felt too nice to wear. My husband gifted it to me for my birthday and I wore it non-stop in the winter. I've since then acquired more Déhanche belts and rotate between them.
I agree on the leather, it's sturdy yet soft and I could tell the quality when comparing it to my other belts. I also really appreciate the touch of the dust bag it comes with. I don't have to be as careful when storing them or worrying that they are going to scratch each other.
Another alternative suggestion to Hollyhock is the Mija belt by Déhanche. I have the croc version and it's somehow feels sturdier than the Hollyhock. I think it's because of the croc leather. I have the dark brown and I think it can easily be worn with brown and black.
